GE Current, a Daintree Company, Launches its Smallest 24V LED Module: the Tetra? Atom

Powerful, miniature module extends Current’s portfolio into a range of new, compact signage applications

GE Current, a Daintree company, announces the European launch of its latest 24-volt product, the Tetra? Atom. One of the smallest LED modules on the market, the Tetra Atom has been designed for use in shallow channel letters measuring as little as 25mm, as well as halo lit and routed acrylic letters used in smaller format signage.

Small yet mighty, Tetra Atom delivers market-leading light output and efficacy, and features Current’s signature build quality, offering sign-makers confidence that their signs will shine brighter for longer. Each module emits an average of 610 lumen/m at an efficacy of 124 lm/W, creating a bright, crisp light for a perfectly-uniform illumination, helping signs stand out, without increasing energy bills.

Up to 300 Tetra Atom modules can be connected to a single 100W power supply; double the loading of some of the Atom’s closest competitors; dramatically reducing the bill of materials and potential points of failure in the system to minimise implementation, maintenance and disposal costs at end of life. The 24V nature of the modules is also significantly more energy-efficient than 12V systems.

Tetra Atom is available in Europe through authorised Current signage distributors.

Ovia fire-rated downlights guarantee compliance in all ceiling types

Ovia Lighting’s full range of INCEPTOR and FLAMEGUARD fire-rated downlights have always been subject to the strictest test measures to ensure they offer full compliance and have the corresponding test certification to meet the very latest regulations. As such, the INCEPTOR OMNI adjustable CTA dimmable LED downlight, INCEPTOR NANO compact fire-rated LED downlight, INCEPTOR PICO FG fire-rated fixed integrated LED downlight, and the FLAMEGUARD GU10 downlights, have all been tested for fire resistance compliance with all ceiling types – solid timber, I-joists and metal web joists.

With the increasing use of I-joists as part of floor construction, the National Housebuilding Council (NHBC) has updated its technical guidance on recessed light fittings in ceilings to intermediate floors in houses. As a result, the NHBC now requires test evidence showing that recessed downlights are suitable for a similar I-joist and plasterboard combination.

Ovia Lighting can confirm that it has successfully completed further fire resistance testing to demonstrate that its fire-rated downlights satisfy the new guidelines issued by the NHBC. The testing was carried out by Efectis – a major player in fire science, covering all fire safety expertise in testing and modelling, certification and inspection around the world.? The new test consisted of a 30 minute I-joist construction – 220mm I-Joist; 15mm Type A Plasterboard and 22mm Floor Deck (which Ovia believes to be the most common construction types now used within the industry).? All fire-rated downlights from the Ovia INCEPTOR and FLAMEGUARD ranges formed part of the test.

To help you understand the issues around testing, Ovia has produced a CPD training module – ‘Downlights and Testing for Fire Rating’, and this is available for delivery on request. Contact Ovia on 01827 300640, or visit

Clean Air Series: UVC lighting that actively reduces the bacterial and viral charge

humanlumen, the lighting brand with a uniquely human-centric approach, introduces the Clean Air Series, a range of UVC Air Sterilisation Units, providing a safe, reliable and sustainable solution for a safe ‘Return to Work’ for many employers and employees.

The Clean Air Series is?a range of efficient UVC lighting devices that actively reduce the bacterial and viral charge of the air in closed environments.

The powerful UVC radiation is totally isolated inside the Air Filtration System (AFS) as exposure of UV light, of any type, in high dosage to the naked eye will cause potential long-term health issues.

The system draws in contaminated air and removes all bacteria through a series of integral filters and then delivers clean air back into the space. Each unit cleanses up to 3000 cubic square metres of open office space and is a simple plug and play system with no integration into the existing mechanical systems.

The clean air units work like an air purifier, but instead of filters it uses the UVC technology to eliminate the viruses. The fan located in the bottom of the fitting sucks in the air of the room and channels it through a series of UVC light canals that have the UVC lights. The UVC kills the viruses and the clean air is released in the room through a carbon filter.

Emergency Lighting Products (ELP)

The SurePath DALI test system goes wireless

The SurePath DALI test panel from Emergency Lighting Products Limited has proven to be an easy to use, yet very detailed method of monitoring emergency lighting installations. Now to make it suitable for even more projects, ELP have developed a wireless version using the power of Bluetooth Low Energy mesh technology.

The attractive panel can be mounted discreetly in any working area and via two BLE mesh networks, communicates wirelessly with up to 128 devices. For larger projects, up to fifty SurePath panels can be networked using the SureLink networking software. Commissioning is made simple using the ELP SurePath Android App.

In all other ways the SurePathBLE panels remain true to the original design. The panel uses standard DALI protocols to monitor each DALI emergency lighting luminaire via a Bluetooth/DALI Gateway module. While all is well, the screen will simply show a green tick. However, if a fault occurs or an emergency luminaire fails a scheduled automatic test, the screen will change to an exclamation mark (and if selected) a warning buzzer will sound.

The SurePath system can automatically notify maintenance engineers of any fault and ‘drill down’ menus will provide full details of exactly what and where the failures are.

Ophir Spiricon Europe GmbH (MKS Instruments) –?Measuring Uniformity of LED Luminaires in Seconds

The Ophir? FluxGage? 604 compact measurement system for LED luminaires features four additional color sensors evenly arranged in the bottom of the device delivering further x,y, and CCT data as well as the illuminance. Within seconds the user gets an overview of the color and overall uniformity of the measured light.

This allows:

  • direct evaluation of LED chips or optical assemblies used for color mixing and beam shaping within the design process.
  • easy usage in end-of-line LED luminaire production applications to instantly detect issues, ensuring high quality product standards are met.

The Ophir FluxGage measurement system also measures total luminous flux, color parameters and flicker.

“Historically, it has been challenging to measure the color uniformity of LED luminaires as measurement devices like goniometers deliver a detailed analysis but are large, relatively slow, and expensive. Ophir FluxGage 604 measurement system revolutionizes the testing of LED luminaires as the compact system only needs a space the size of the luminaire being tested, which makes handling easy. In addition, measurements can be performed in less than two seconds and literally in any environment”, explains Dr. Simon Rankel, Business Development Manager LED for the Ophir brand.

Three complementary technologies to improve the delivery of light quality under an over-arching banner of ‘Light so Good’.

Three complementary technologies to improve the delivery of light quality under an over-arching banner of ‘Light so Good’. Using proprietary technologies and expertise in developing blue emitters and high-quality phosphors, Nichia’s trio of complementary lighting technologies – Vitasolis, Optisolis and the 2-in-1 series of LEDs – is set to raise the bar in delivering light quality without sacrificing energy efficiency.

Vitasolis? technology incorporates a new LED family that enables users to benefit from the energy savings of LED and the advantages of human-centric lighting (HCL). Vitasolis uses a special blend of phosphors to provide a strong cyan component in their spectrum without a cost in terms of luminous efficacy.

Optisolis? is the world’s first series of packaged LEDs and chip-on-board (COB) solutions that accurately mimic natural light sources without producing any harmful ultraviolet (UV) light. Optisolis not only shows objects in a more vivid and impactful way, it also preserves them at their best.

Furthermore, Nichia has now rolled out its 2-in-1 tunable white, a series of single light-emitting surface (LES), mid-power 3030 LEDs. The solution enables luminaire manufacturers to improve colour tuning, shrink optics and fixture profiles, open up creative design possibilities and potentially improve operational SKU management.
